Body Damage

Body Damage

The truck is old, the window is dusty, and somebody has added a newer sticker: chicks dig body damage. It sits beneath an oval memorial sticker for Sean Thomas Sande, dated August 16, 1989–November 22, 2005. One makes you smile. The other asks you to pause.

I found this truck in Meeker, Colorado, and liked the way the newer joke had joined the old glass without erasing what was already there. Rust catches the light around the window; the stickers stay put, each carrying something different. A photograph about the stories we leave in visible places—and how a little humor can share the same space as remembrance.
