The Other Side of the Sun

The Other Side of the Sun

Most sunflowers are photographed face-on, turned toward the light like everyone else. This one is seen from behind. With the sun at its back, the petals glow like stained glass, every vein lit from within, while the green bracts at the center fall into deep silhouette. Fine hairs along the edges catch just enough light to trace their outlines against the dark.

The background drops away into slate blue and near-black, leaving the flower suspended in a warm halo of its own light. It’s a quiet study of the side we tend to overlook, and a reminder that some of the most beautiful details are found when you walk around to the back and look again.
